On Saturday, December 14, 2019, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved wife of the late Douglas A. Moats; mother of Karen M. (Tim) Theoharis and the late Douglas A. (Carol) Moats; grandmother of Douglas and Alexander Theoharis; great-grandmother of Vinny, Eleni and the late Jaxx Theoharis. Also survived by loving nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at Silver Spring United Methodist Church, 8900 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, 20910 on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 2 p.m. Inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium at a later date. WONG, Shue Ying

Shue Ying Wong

On Tuesday, December 17, 2019, Shue Ying Wong of Hyattsville, MD, passed away after a heroic battle with lymphoma. He was the beloved husband of Sau Ching Wong; father of Anna Eng, Betsy Chang, Lily Wen, Ken Wong and Susan Wong, and survived by eight beloved grandchildren. Shue was born in China where he grew up with three siblings. He worked as a professional chef for many years until his retirement.

Viewing will be held at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD on December 27, 2019 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Funeral Mass at Church of the Resurrection (Resurrection Church), 3315 Greencastle Road, Burtonsville, MD on December 28, 2019 at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD; afterwards, there will be a reception at Silver Fountain Restaurant, 13533 Connecticut Avenue, Silver Spring, MD.

YAMADA, Yoshihiko

Yoshihiko Yamada (Age 76)
Passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2019 in Rockville, Maryland. Born February 7, 1943 in Osaka, Japan, he was the third son of Yoshikazu and Hideko Yamada.
Yoshi led a distinguished career as a scientist. For most of his 40-year career at the NIH, he served as Chief of the Molecular Biology section of the Laboratory of Developmental Biology at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. During this time, he made significant contributions to our understanding of basement membrane components, cartilage, and other extracellular matrices important in development and disease. He also trained and mentored many young scientists who have since become leaders in their own right.
Yoshi is survived by his wife, Makiko of Silver Spring, MD, son Tomohiko of Rochester, MN, and daughter Lindsey of Silver Spring, MD. He is also survived by his elder sisters, Hitomi and Ayuko of Osaka, Japan. He is preceded in death by his elder brother, Shinji and elder sister Teruyo.
Yoshi Yamada will be fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all those who have known him.
Visitation will take place at Francis J. Collins Funeral Home (Valet Parking), 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD on Saturday, December 21, 2019 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Burial Private.

PHILIP EUGENE PROVINCE (Age 85)  

On December 16, 2019, Philip E. Province of Silver Spring, MD. Devoted husband of Sarah Province (nee Moore), beloved father of Bonnie Nay (Matthew Bogdan), Rose Azalde (Edmundo Azalde), and Susan Phillips (Andrew Gurganus). Loving grandfather of Nicholas Phillips, Philip Nay, Claudia Azalde, Kennedy Phillips, Mark Nay, Naman Nay, Cecilia Phillips, and Antonio Azalde. Honorable, and truly kind, he lived with a strong work ethic that he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his quiet intelligence, and his ability to inject levity into any situation, with a joke and a smile. He graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He earned the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy where he served a total of 20 years including active duty and reserves. He had a 55 year career as a computer analyst in the aerospace industry. He also devoted much time into his hobby of restoring player pianos, melodeons, and organs. He also had a lifelong interest in classic cars, and lovingly restored his father’s 1938 Plymouth. He will be forever in our hearts. Relatives and friends may call at Saint Luke Lutheran Church, 9100 Colesville Rd, Silver Spring, MD on Monday, December 30 from 1 to 2 p.m., where Memorial Service will follow at 2 p.m. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Christine L. Alex (Age 58)
Of Silver Spring, MD, died December 11, 2019 at home. Chris was the beloved daughter of the late William and Mary Alex of Connecticut and sister of Lisa Alex and Gregory Alex. Chris grew up in Bloomfield, CT and attended Pennsylvania State University where she graduated with a B.S. in meteorology. In recent years, she completed Certificates in Natural History and Environmental Sciences from Graduate School USA. Her career at the National Weather Service lasted 37 years; she was dedicated to improving weather and environmental services to the public. Chris approached life with a full and generous heart and was always open for adventure. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A Memorial Mass at Church of the Resurrection, 3315 Greencastle Road, Burtonsville, will be held on Monday, January 6, 10:30 a.m. with a reception to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Hens for Haiti

FRANCISCA E. OLIVOS

Francisca (Paquita) Olivos passed away on Thursday, November 14th, 2019, in Silver Spring, MD.  She was the beloved mother of Guillermo Olivos (Bangor, ME), Ariela (Olivos) Vader (Grantham, PA), Martha (Olivos) Gonzalez (San Antonio, TX), and Isabelle Olivos-Glander (Rockville, MD); and beloved grandmother of Guillermo Olivos, Maegan Olivos, Emily Vader, Daniel Vader, Adan Gonzalez, Nathan Vader, Zachary Olivos, Paloma Gonzalez, Emma Glander, Maya Glander, Joaquin Gonzalez, and Lucas Glander.  She is survived by siblings Benilda Reto, Carlos Ramirez, Antonina Rivera, and Nancy Martinez.

Francisca was born in Peru where she grew up with 8 beloved siblings.  She married Dr. Guillermo Olivos in 1957 and moved to the United States.  She enjoyed her friends and fashion as she worked for over twenty years in retail beautifying her many customers. Francisca also enjoyed art, music, dancing and the theater. Her children remember lovely parties with Peruvian music, food and dances such as the Marinera.  She often visited her family in Peru and enjoyed traveling to other places including Hawaii, Italy, Argentina, Russia and Spain.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call at Our Lady of Grace Church, 15663 Norbeck Blvd, Silver Spring, MD on Saturday December 21st from 10-11 am and to celebrate the funeral Mass at 11 am.  Graveside service and Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD.
